I save all scraps - fabric, batting, thread and use them to fill dog/cat beds for the humane society. I too buy bags of scraps at rummage sales or the thrift store and usually end up with some larger pieces that I just don't like or may be a knit or upholstery fabric. Between those and my scraps, I can make a pretty decent small pet bed.
I also make dog beds for the local Humane Society ... and have so much that I need to start on cat beds. I asked my local quilt guild ladies to save their scraps for me. They love the idea so much, they don't have to throw away fabric and it is going to a good cause, that my bdrm is overflowing with sacks and sacks and boxes and boxes of misc. fabric.
