I am a self taught quilt top piecer, but not yet a quilter.
I have been at this for about three years now. I have been very enthusiastic about purchasing fabric- probably too enthusiastic. I have enough fabric to keep me busy for about five years.
The fabric I used in this quilt was an EBay impulse buy- I just loved the colors and prints. The fabrics were 13 Laura Ashley fat quarters. I put them away, and when I came across them, I wondered what the heck I would do with them.
During the past summer, the fabrics were calling to me, but I have three grown sons. To whom would I give a quilt is these shades of white, pink, purple, and green? I have a darling grandniece who lives with her family on the other side of the world, in Africa. So I began to cut with her in mind.
I used block patterns from Quilter's Cache, a website run by Marcia Hohn, to whom I am greatly indebted. For the sashing, I should have cut the fabric on the bias, but that is part of my learning process.
My quilter, Cheri Gabrielsen, stitched it all over with dragon flies in bright green thread. I love the whimsy of the dragonflies flitting through the flower garden.
