The way shown in that video creates a lot of waste. There is a way to cut two rectangles, then cut them again diagonally and sew them on, creating the tilted border with no waste. I did a quilt that way, but don't remember where I read the directions. If you keep looking online for tilted block sets I'm sure you will find it.
I make the border part a smidge larger than needed, cut the first square, then use the cutoffs to make the next square. There is some waste because you trim down to size, but you don't really loose those big triangle pieces.
