My sewing group has been using vodka/water mix for several years. We don't go anyplace without our vodka spray bottle. We mix 4 parts water to 1 part vodka (cheapest vodka you can get). We don't use it as a starch, but to press our seams (makes crisp seams) or spray the fabric if there is a stubborn crease - irons right out. Of course, the better vodka goes into something else.
