I always pre-wash the fabric and then wash the finished quilt, before gifting them. Like others have mentioned, I want to be the one to find it, if anything goes amiss. I also like to give them, ready to use.
I do this too. Prewash to test color, shrinkage, eliminate chemicals. Post-wash to get rid of any marks or smudges, and to ensure that it holds together.
