I guess you could, if you found it annoying enough. I really didn't find it to be a big deal.

Holice - yes, I believe you'd have to wash the quilt afterwards. The soap doesn't really rub off very easily. I used it to mark scallops, and most of the lines ended up being under the binding and wouldn't have showed. But if you're using it to mark for quilting, you'll want to wash the lines out.
