Friend of mine sat at a table and her husband used books to help her attain a comfortable height for her sewing table. Then he measured and went shopping. He found 2 base kitchen cabinets and put them together back to back for a cutting table. If you go to the organization section you can get a lot of ideas for virtually little cost. Anyway she had her quilting/sewing room set up right off her utility room. Washer and dryer with a deep sink next to it. They took on the concept of a kitchen with a pantry. Her sewing table has an attached ironing board that can be put out of sight like the cutting boards above drawers in kitchens. He took 2 drawer spaces so it would be long enough and wide enough. He even has a little media centre for her computer and small television. the utility room has a lot of storage for fabrics she doesn't use as much.
