I just saw a blog mentioned somewhere on here (sorry, didn't write it down) where a person had a recipe printed on fabric and then made that into a potholder. So you could do that and use a family recipe or your favorite recipe. They sent to Spoonflower for the recipe printing on fabric, but you could do it on your computer with fabric purchased at most fabric places.
