I do machine embroidery on most of my quilts (that includes lots of stitch types including satin) and I use a light weight tear away. The stabilizer tears away from the stitches. leaving pieces under the satin stitches...reinforces the stitches...does not wash away. There are cloth-type wash away products (Vilene is one) and they can be hooped and used underneath if you are concerned...they wash completely away including under the stitching. You do not have to wash the quilt. Cut away the majority of the stabilizer and then steam or spritz with spray.
