I only use wash away when I do towels. I am newish to embroidery and attend a workshop with a emb guru every week. She has never said to use stabilizer on top except a wash away or heat away on towels. I cant imagine a tearaway on top of satin stitching. Even before I started emb I did lots of satin stitching and all directions I looked at suggested a stabilizer on the bottom only.
