Some of those cases were too shallow for some of the clones and some of the Singer 15s. Old Mr Ugly (a Singer 15 from 1888) had to have more room under him because one part moved way below. Mr. Ugly didn't set well without a case. I think they finally modified the design so it set better and the part didn't drag bottom - but then some clones were made just like Mr Ugly anyway. LOL. I sold Mr Ugly yesterday. sigh. I've seen people try to change out Singer 99 and something else too tall and leave a hole in the bottom of a bentwood case. I solved it by putting legs on the case and a more rounded hole in the bottom of the bentwood case. LOL
