If the case is damaged the machine can be damaged. I got 10 free machines from a flood one time. All were in plastic cases. The cases were very damaged - rusted hinges & latches - lots of silt. All but the old Singer machines were damaged because they not only got wet they were put away wet and the damp did them in - rusted solid. The cases did more harm than good that time.
