I made robes for my granddaughters from heavy bath towels. I had my daughter watch for a good sale and asked her to buy three big towels. I used the edging on the towels for the edge of the hood and the sleeves, as well as the bottom of the robes. They turned out beautiful, and were way less expensive than buying terry cloth. Another thing you could use would be beach towels, as long as they were heavy enough. I bought coordinating fabric for the facing, which you could also use for the belt. I used leftover "towel cloth" for the belt and that turned out good too!
