you can use any fabric you want in a quilt- look at crazy quilts that contain silks, satins, cottons, velvets....
the only thing I really keep in mind when mixing textiles is ...'will they play well together'? as in---does everything I used launder ok together? are they similar in weight? (although that is not always a consideration) I've made lots of quilts using wool on flannel backgrounds; wools, silks, corduroys, flannels, denim and regular cottons in the same quilt--
you are right the 'blend' will not {felt} you may have edges that fray- zigzagging them will help with that if it is a problems- but then it might not be a problem.
