I think there is probably a way of saying that you don't like Chevrons and the currently popular colors without being rude and condescending about a style of quilting which many others do enjoy.

There's room for a wide array of styles and tastes in the world of quilting, and it's actually a good thing for more traditional quilters to have so many younger "modern" quilters interested in the hobby -- it keeps manufacturers making fabric, stores (both online and brick and mortar) in business. A quickly pieced, less technically advanced quilt being popular does nothing to detract from the expertise and time you personally invest in a quilt -- so, please avoid saying things that discourage newer quilters and make them feel "less than."
I agree. I love clean modern colors, cutesy fabrics and quick and simple piecing. And just because it's simple and quick piecing doesn't mean it's "slap dash".
