Talking Newbie quilter from Sweden

Dear all,

I've been lurking around this great board for a few weeks now and I feel it is time for a polite presentation. I'm 40 years old (oh dear), living on the west coast of Sweden with my husband, my kids and my whippet. My native language is Swedish so please forgive me if my English gets confusing. I'm a engineer during day and quilter at night. Quilting has been a craft/art which I have had an urge to learn for some time. Due to that piecing and quilting is not a very big hobby in Sweden there has been very few good resources available. However, since I discovered that Youtube has thousands of videos with all kinds of inspiring stuff I've really got a good push into learning new techniques. Right now I'm really enjoying Leah Days excellent tutorials on free motion quilting. I'm pushing my poor Pfaff Creative 2134 to the limit, trying to master micro stippling to fill on the Whole Patch Quilt pattern which Leah shares on her blog.

Besides quilting I also do some clothes for my kids. Mostly basic garments. Every-once in a while I'll do something for me as well.

I also have a knitting machine and I enjoy different kinds of jewelry making techniques. Next to this I also enjoy clay pigeon shooting and dog training. I also enjoy sailing, fishing and other water sports. I confuse people... Thank you for reading this far.

If I may add a question. I think it's very difficult to smoothly move the quilt through the machine. And every time the needle goes down the darning/FMQ foot sort of grabs the quilt for me stopping me in my "flow". The plastic surface of the Pfaff is also not quite smooth but sort of rough and I guess this also contributes to my problems. I've been considering to do the modification on a generic FMQ-fot like Leah Day demonstrates, but I'd really appreciate any input on this.

BR,
Maria
