Default FMQ Butterflies!!

As some of you know, I am trying to branch out with my FMQ to go beyond stippling, SITD and straight line quilting. What I have done is to sandwich some UFOs that have sat in waiting mode for sometime, thinking that they can be practice pieces. If they turn out, fine. If not, at least they are finished and they gave me something more realistic for practice than just some sandwiched fabric with no plan.

This is a runner that I made just from odds and ends leftover from a couple of projects. Thus, why none of the print pieces are very big, as that was as large as the scraps would let me! When I made it I had no thoughts as to how one would quilt it, other than SITD. So I sat and looked at it, and thought, what if I took the design and used it for the FMQing? and and then, what if I did some outlining with some creative work to extend the design onto the blender fabric?

Here's what resulted ...............

Was I coming close to "thread painting" with this fern?
