I have a project like that in mind also, but am using a photograph. I had the photo printed at Kinko's to a 3 foot x 5 foot enlargement (about $12) and will use that for tracing and making the applique pieces. I've read every article and watched every you-tube I can find on the process and went to hear David Taylor (award winning photo to quilt artist) speak about his method - a little too intense for me, but will probably use some of his techniques along with others to achieve what I want the finished piece to be.
