you could always wind thread onto a bobbin then use the bobbin as the 2nd spool of thread. I've done lots of stained glass projects- never used anything special for the thread- I use what ever black thread I have on hand- works just fine. (its kind of like the recipe calling for Idaho potatoes---Michigan potatoes work just fine.
