I'm using a Fairfield cotton batting right now. Sorry I don't remember if it was called "natural cotton batting" or not, but it is all cotton. Anyway, it was so thing my fingers would poke through it when I was layering the quilt sandwich and it would easily pull apart when I was trying to spread it. Never again.
I had the same experience with some batting my sister bought for a quilt of hers that I was quilting. Don't remember if it was fairfield, but it was quite thin and pulled apart very easily. I had a terrible time trying to load it on the frame. Always make sure your batting is needle punched.
