I remember Fairfield from years ago as thin and likely to shred/bunch up if not very closely quilted. I don't believe it was needle-punched (like Hobbs, for instance) which would help to make it a bit more stable.

I agree. When I used it years ago, it wasn't the best of quality. I would stick with either W&N or Hobbs. Hobbs is sold by the yard at least at my local JAF. It is fold twice so it is less than 36" roll !!
