I belong to that Yahoo group - they really do have tons of info on there, and I'd strongly suggest joining and reading and finding out before messing with a stuck Viking. BTW- my main sewing machine is a 32 year old Viking and I love it.
We learned the hard way in attempting to obtain a working 6570 like my very first sewing machine.
