LOL, you are going to do a serious "duh" when I tell you. Bella, this is a Tree Skirt. Becky thoughtfully left an unquilted area where the client will make the cut from the edge to the center hole (currently the batting and backing have not been cut away either) when finishing so you can wrap the skirt around the tree! That "obvious seam line" will be cut and bound and most likely have laces or ties of some sort put on. I have never seen a tree skirt that didn't have the opening somewhere.
