Have a look at post #46, but you are really free in making these blankets!!! They should not be too big and there is no batting: they should be soft and cuddly!!! You will only to have the front and back side to turn over!! I hope it's the right word for this making....
And if you are sewing such a blanket for someone you know it would be very nice if you can get stuff this person will remember: an old apron, a pillow case, a shirt..... something with a kind of memo value!!!
