I have made many like this as our table is round and these fit nicer. My original pattern was cut from one of the patio placemats - kind of a rubbery feel that sticks and doesn't blow away so easily -. When I make these I use 1 layer of W&N batting and usually put 2 different fabrics on. One on the front and one on the back to coordinate with a tablerunner or mat (e.g. Halloween on one side/ fall leaves on the other). Usually cut my own bias binding unless I have a match I want to use. Have fun......I'm sure she'll enjoy whatever you make.
