Soapy water might clean it but you could have a bit of rust if it gets into the moving parts. Glenn did not use anything else before he did the tutorial:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...ml#post6431860 He just got out his stuff and used a rag - cleaned it up very nicely. Believe me that machine was plenty dirty. He sure did transform it, too. Flick off the dust bunnies before you start.
