You are right that they are a bit flimsy. I read a tip on this board that I started doing and it helps alot (I'm sorry that I don't remember the author because I would love to give them the credit). Use another ruler (I use my 6 X 12 Omnigrid ruler) and place it very close to the slot you are cutting and push down with your hand on that extra ruler. I've found that doing that really stabilizes the June Taylor ruler and I feel like I am get very accurate cuts without any wobble in the flimsy plastic.
