And yes Mama you were dead on! Exactly what I did. Rhonda's method also works - I just hate trimming anything over a 45 degree angle (I am SO lazy).

Would making the initial square and the square you cut into two triangles a bit larger, say 1/4", provide the overlap needed when the whole white square and the triangle meet to allow for the ensuing 1/4" seam -- to avoid the seam falling on the points at the colored/white joints??
