You ask a super question!!! I was curious earlier this evening and did a search myself to solve that very question! I found that a D9P's blocks can be turned to resemble a D4P!!

So in answer to your question, I would say this is BOTH a D4P and a D9P! It has a 4P for a center but so can a D9P have a 4P in the center. Here's a quick link for you to see the very many different ways a D9P can be done.

And because the quilt blocks I did were just like assembling a 9P block, I feel like the blocks in my quilt are both a D4P and a D9P!

Normally, the D9P's 2 center blocks are turned facing outward while the other 2 are facing inward so in this case, my quilt would be called a D4P block. This is the main reason I call it a D4P because of the identifiable 4P in the center.

By the way, there's no other way to do the block 'all scrappy' unless it is done the way I did mine. You have a great question and I hope my answer is the right one. I originally named my file D9P and on further search I found I was actually doing a D4P. Thank you, AngeliaNR!!
