I was in your same position a few months ago. I was starting to cut out a Storm at Sea quilt and did not have anymore grippies so I thought to try painters blue tape. I love it. I used small pieces folded over so sticky side to template as well as on fabric. I spaced about every 8-10 inches apart. I would replace tape after about 30 uses. LOVED IT! You have to try it. Maureen
