Default 66-16 electrical problem

I finally took the morning to start learning about my Singer 66-16. I read the manual! It was pretty clean but I dusted & oiled it, cleaned out a couple of spots and started to think about re-attaching the knee pedal. I haven't figured that out so I need some tips on that. I haven't found anything online for instructions. While the main power cord to the motor is fine, I found a scary problem with the cord from the motor to a black box that seems to be the knee control regulator. bare wires. It was kind of twisted under so I didn't see it until I unwrapped it. SO. How do I fix this? Do I just take it to a small motor repair shop? Is there a youtube I can watch? Is there a good source for the parts? I am having a bit of a panic and disappointment. I haven't even plugged it in to see if the motor worked since I wanted to be sure it was oiled before I tried to run it. I'm glad I didn't start it. Here are a few pictures, the 1st is the frayed wires then a few from beneath the machine and above of the black box. It has to attach to the slotted bar some how. this button depresses Maybe if someone has a photo of how the knee lever attaches I can figure it out. I keep trying to put it different places but it doesn't quite work. I'm also missing a screw to hold it on to the slotted bar. Since it's all your fault I'm trying to do this, I really hope you don't mind me being a pest.
