GreyQ, You have the infamous aluminum wire with latex insulation cords on that machine. They should be replaced. Their life time is long over.

As I have said so many times, SEW-CLASSIC is your best friend.
The cord from the back of the cord block to the controller is: { http://www.shop.sew-classic.com/Cord...rol-SCE510.htm }
The power cord from the outside of the cord block to the wall socket is: { http://www.shop.sew-classic.com/Cord...ORE-SCE122.htm }
They are easy to replace. Just follow the original wiring route, undo the old wires and install the new wires.

Your knee controller lever is missing. Here is some pics from my 66-16 cabinet:
