Default Scrappy – FMQ – label on binding and learning all the way

This is my third quilt and I have never followed a pattern for a whole quilt. I always choose blocks that I liked and that I wanted to try and then fudged around it to make a quilt. This caused me lots of headaches but it was a wonderful learning experiences. I don’t have much of a stash as at the beginning I bought ¼ yards of fabrics that I thought I needed... (I learned better later... and don’t do that anymore). Thus my goal was to learn new techniques and to use what I had.
I decided to try to follow directions of a pattern from a book and I chose Modified flying geese incorporated by Gayle Bong. The problem was that the direction are for a 43 ¼ by 43 ¼ quilt and I wanted a bed size quilt and rectangular... oopsssss The technique is called “twin peaks” and uses scraps, which was my very first goal.
The book is called ”Twin Peaks, quilts from easy Strip-Pieced triangles” from Gayle Bong. http://www.gaylebong.com/announcements/2008.html
As I liked to hand quilt and I always make them sort of reversible, I chose to modify this labyrinth pattern form Debbie Maddy to make it a huge block so I would not have to deal with too many layers of seams to hand quilt. http://webstore.quiltropolis.net/sto...1209&Photo=One
As I progressed with this quilt I was handquilting my second quilt and I developed pain in my right thumb. I just could not hand quilt anymore so I thought I would give FMQ a try and as everyone says Practice, practice, practice...!!! FMQuilting a big quilt on my small sewing machine would give me just that: a lot of practice.
As this was not enough, I decided to learn how to label my quilt on the binding after i read this thread “printing on a binding” http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...g-t220751.html
I accepted the fact that it would not be perfect but at least I would learn all the way and the layers would hold together and I do not intend this quilt to be inspected that closely ever, by anyone... except you all ... loll
