Default I Hear Bagpipes....

I just finished this mini quilt/mug rug/whatever for my youngest son's bagpipe instructor. I'm giving it to him tonight just in case we don't have lessons next week because of the holiday.
My 11 year old has been taking bagpipe lessons for about 2 months.
I cropped the paper piece block (it was in one solid block so I had to cut it apart and mentally add seam allowances) then printed it to fit on the page. The finished mini quilt, borders and all is 10 1/2" square.

This pattern came from Heleen Pinkster's site. It was part of a previous year's block of the month. I got a nice notecard in the mail with the bagpipe picture on it and the page of instructions/block on a page folded inside the card. It was well worth the cash to get it.

Heleen runs a block of the month every year. This year was quilting room themed.

As an idea of how small these pieces were... This was my progress after my first morning of working on it. It took me about 7 1/2 hours to completely finish this bagpipe.

It was so worth it - although my little bagpiper is very envious of the mini quilt. I do plan on making him one but it won't happen before xmas....
