I hope you're able to get your mixer motor cleaned out. I'd have stopped, when the stuff started climbing the beaters.
I also had a mutant food adventure, only with zucchini bread. I followed the directions, to the letter, even for the exact size of bread pans. That stuff grew and grew and grew, overflowing the pans like some sort of alien beast! Luckily, I had a cookie sheet beneath the pans. Some recipes are not to be trusted!
