I have done two very small (sunglasses case) projects with FMQ and didn't have any tension issues. I did find however that the foot was really close to the plate and it made it a little difficult to maneuver my fabric and my feed dogs were dropped, but it also could be I didn't have much fabric to hold on to. No stitch regulator for me, spent enough on the crescendo
I just keep practicing.
