I don't put spit on anything. Even though I've jabbed pins/needles into my fingers, I've never bled onto a quilt. If I did, I'd use cold water, before spit. When threading a needle, I snip off the end just before inserting it into the needle. IF the thread still gives trouble, I may press the very end of it between my chap-stick-ed lips.
