Do not know what the lightning stitch is but I sew with a lot of knits. I use a small zig zag stitch, not a tight one. Small bites and sort of long stretch. Practice on scraps. Try not to stretch the material as you sew. Use a Knit Needle, probably 90-70. Regular 50 weight thread, I use Gutermann brand. Sew 2 pieces of fabric together and then open it up and check the stitching. Threads Magazine has a lot of info on sewing with knits.
