Default Seahorse art quilt and handmade flowers-in-progress

This wall hanging is for my husband. He loves sea horses.

I'm pretty happy with this, I tried a lot of new-to-me techniques and didn't have any catastrophic failures along the way! (Hard to tell but the seahorses and the rocks are trapunto - my first try at that. Also tried thread painting for the seahorse "spots".)

Can you see the ray of light? I worried it was too subtle but it shows up well in the pictures anyway!

Close ups:

Big guy's face (this is before I washed off the blue lines)

Little guy (a little blurry, sorry!)

And the other project I'm working on today & tomorrow (hopefully can finish in time): handmade artificial flowers for my grandmother-in-law. Inspired by an article in the latest Quilting Arts, but with my own style added. There will (hopefully) be three; this red one, an orangey/pinky one, and a yellow - you can see the pieces for these and some leaves in the background...

How it'll hopefully look once I get it assembled: (yellow ball is a pin head)

How it actually looks right now:

What I'm doing for the stem:

This is two paper-wrapped floral stems I've twisted together; the flower head and a pair of leaves will be stitched (and possibly glued) to this then I'll wrap it in green fabric to hide all the stitches, with a little green felt skirt to transition from the stem to the leaves. (I don't know what that part of the flower is really called, lol) Then I bought a nice clear bottle to serve as a vase, with glass beads for weight (these flower heads are heavy!) I hope she likes it!
