Cowboys and cowgirls
My nephew lives in Houston, TX and his room is decorated in the western art done by my late mother over 20 years ago. When I found this pattern, I knew I had to do it for his "big boy bed" when he turned 2. I purchased digitizing software specifically for this quilt. The first cowboy took 2 months as I struggled to learn the software. Many hours were spent in one-on-one tutoring with very patient mentors at Atlanta Sewing Center. Four months later, the top is done! Each cowboy has a story, so the stories have also been digitized and stitched on the back panels. The pattern is Posse by Susan Hill and published through Lavender-Rabbit.com. I have taken some artistic liberties, the biggest one being the replacement of one of the cowboys with a cowgirl. The patterns are designed for hand applique, but there was no way I was doing hand applique for a 2-yr-old. In the time spent learning the software, digitizing the designs and stitching them out, I think I could have hand appliqued them. I learned a lot! Hope you like them. I'm very proud of my first effort at digitizing and machine embroidery. As for the nephew, I'd better see this quilt on his bed when I attend his high school graduation!
