It depends on the area. In Pennsylvania they use the reds and yellows. Here in Kalona Iowa I guess they don't. The lady I sell to is not Amish but it is a tourist area that uses the quilts as it's main marketing promotion. It is the center of a large Amish community so I guess she wants my stuff to reflect that. She asked me not to use reds yellows or browns or what she terms Easter colors. So I have been using and focusing on the darker colors since 98. I like the dark darks and the light lights as it is great contrast and patterns tend to jump out at you. But I am trying to branch out more now that I am selling online and hoping to do other things as well.
Thanks for explaining that to me. I live around Hutterites and I never see them make anything yellow or red. I never really paid attention to that until you mentioned it.
