My Christmas Cactus that turned 52 years of age on Christmas Day is blooming like crazy. I collect them and all but 3 are blooming. Those 3 should bloom in the spring. I know they should be kept in the dark a certain number of hours a day, but they have a light that comes on every night at 6 and burns until 1, plus the street light gives them light. I don't do any thing special, but I have never heard of the Castor oil. Might try that on my non-bloomers.
