I really want to make this quilt

While I would love, love to have the fat quarter set, I have more than 3 times as many FQ's in batiks and regular cotton as I am somewhat of a fanatic for rainbow colors.
I was wondering if the pattern instructions have you construct the HST blocks in a manner similar to the ones used in the Summer in the Park quilt (

How does this method turn out? I know it ends up with bias edges so that is my only real concern.
