The only problem I have found with 2 inch bindings is that they tend to wear faster over time. I started out making baby quilts with warm and natural batting and 2 inch edges. As baby items get washed more often, I noticed by the time little sister was born, big brother's binding was tattered. I put a new binding on his favorite quilt, but have since used the 2 1/2 inch binding. The looseness puts less stress on the fabrick IMHO.
