Is it possible to carefully cut the threads and use what you have learned since them to sew the appliqués down properly? I would go to the trouble of doing so to give me something to work on while watching TV in the evenings with DH. You did say you still like the fabrics you chose, so don't waste them, redo them a couple at a time until the job is redone?
