I used to do refinishing. That furniture may be wood but if it is the kind made in the fifties that it looks like you may get a surprise if you accidentally stripped it with a solution. That wood is "PLYWOOD" and does not redo easily if you try to stain it. That is why the furniture is heavy lasts a long time and holds together so well but many companies did the off white -yellow color with a lacquer finish. Many of the beds had the bookcase headboards.
