Fat quarters are 18X22 a yard fabric is 36X44 (about) so you get 4 fat quarters from a yard. You still get 1/4 yard if you figure it in sq inches, in a more user friendly shape. I hope I explained this in a understandable way. Some times the fingers and brain don' connect correctly when I type. LOL
