I don't think it is ugly .... just not popping. I think the pink does the job here, especially the light pink. It needs a brighter, bolder color ..... something in more contrast to the white.
Another suggestion (if you don't want to change the light pink) would be changing the dark outer border to the darker pink or something close to it. Good luck. I know you've put a lot of work into this quilt to just toss it.
BTW ... love your date on pictures, working into the future has to be fun.
