bearisgray--my 9 inch finished sample above was made using the same size square for both the small 9 patches and the 4 patches (1 inch finished). The float space around the 4 patch when put in a square in a square is slightly larger (about 1/32 of an inch) but it doesn't seem to visually affect the results.
