the nice thing about using flannel for batting is the quilting density does not really matter- you don't have to worry about quilting every 2-4" like some battings require- you can quilt around squares/blocks- or you can tie your quilt- flannel works well when you want a really 'flat' quilt- since there is no real 'loft' ... it adds weight, body & drape without loft.
